1) Chapter 3 27-39
2)
Nick is invited and attends Jay Gatsby's "small party." When Nick arrives he describes in much detail the elaborate party, and the full orchestra. He sees Jordan Baker at the party and they roam the party together enjoying each other's company. During the party Nick meets, Jay Gatsby, who takes interest in him however always is taken away from the moment. After the party is over Nick finds himself attracted to Jordan, and so begins a relationship between the two.
3)
a) Jay Gatsby
b) "It faced ... The whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you, as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at you best, you hoped to convey.
c) Understanding, approving, innocent, and mysterious.
d) Jay Gatsby is Daisy's true love, and longs for her. However, he plays a more crucial role in the novel, know for his lavish lifestyle and notoriety, he holds himself away from the crowd. He searches for intimacy, during his parties however struggles to find it. This is shown when he pulls Jordan Baker aside for a one on one conversation and they leave the festivities for an hour. This also conveyed when he invites Nick onto his hydroplane, although he doesn't know Nick at all. It is clear that Jay Gatsby's anonymous is something he strives for and keeps his background a secret.
4)"I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known."
This quote stood out to me because Nick shares that he believes the rest of his community is full of phony people. This quote is pertinent to me because I hold myself true to the work I do. But like Nick I see phony people who aren't genuine in their words or actions.
